Rhianna Album-Poor Sales

Def Jam is extremely worried that Rihanna's new album, Rated R is not performing.

Def Jam marked down her album price to $3.99 on Amazon yesterday. And that today they're having an early morning meeting to decide whether to sell it as a .99 cent special on black friday.

Day 26 Leaves Bad Boy

Diddy's stream of band fallouts is continuing as Day 26 formally announces that they've left his Bad Boy record label. While Diddy embarks on new territory with his recent signing to Interscope, his brain child of Quanell, Willie, Brian and Mike will do the same. The group has moved from Diddy's emblem to Atlantic Records. By doing so, hopefully they'll be able to salvage their career before their demise a la Danity Kane.

"Bad Boy is always our family, but we're with Atlantic right now…we really want to get people focused on the artistry, on the music. I think a lot of people lost it with the entertainment of the show. So now, we really want to show people what we're all about, that we do our thing whether it's on stage, in the studio, writing and producing -- we do it all.”

The rap world is at a crossroads. In the face of shrinking budgets, music executives, resting on their laurels, search out the next YouTube sensation with a catchy hook and dance move in order to amass digital single sales. While many artists have tried to break through despite an industry melt down, few have been met with critical praise. And the applause for those that have has not been loud enough to sway the course of the current rap market. Looking to excel where his contemporaries have failed, North Carolina native J. Cole (born Jermaine Cole) brings promise of a new day in hip hop music. http://www.jcolemusic.com/about/

Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty, One-Year Sentence Expected

(Lil Wayne arrives at court on Thursday) NEW YORK — Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to felony gun possession in a Manhattan courtroom on Thursday (October 22) stemming from a July 2007 arrest following his first headlining concert in New York. The rapper will be sentenced to one year in prison as a part of his plea deal and must also give up his passport. Wayne quietly told the judge yes when asked if he understood the terms of the plea he was making. Asked what type of gun he possessed, Wayne said, "A .40-caliber semi-automatic." Wayne had black jeans, a gray coat, white T-shirt and blue Chucks. He was accompanied by the CEOs of his label, Cash Money Records, Bryan "Baby" Williams and Ronald "Slim" Williams. The hearing began at 10:05 a.m. ET and was over in 20 minutes. About 20 minutes after the hearing ended, Lil Wayne exited the building, covering his head with the hood of his sweatshirt. Photographers and reporters followed as court officials escorted him to his vehicle. In response to many reporters' questions, all Wayne said was, "What's up?" February 2010 and is expected to serve eight to 10 months, assuming good behavior. He must also appear in court in December for a parole update. The incident took place in July 2007, when police pulled over Wayne's tour bus at around 11:30 p.m. on the night of his show at the New York's Beacon Theatre. They arrested the rapper for criminal possession of a weapon and another man on the bus for criminal possession of marijuana. Even before his show that night, Wayne made repeated comments from the stage about being hassled by police and threatened not to perform in New York again.

Swizzy Talks Fake MCs & Ruff Ryders Return

Swizz Beatz recently did an intervie where the producer slash rapper gave his view on who's "real" in the music industry nowadays. [Swizz Beatz Calls Out Fake Emcees "I think hip-hop is missing something that's real," Swizz said in an interview. "So we did 'Who's Real.' When we first dropped 'Ruff Ryders Anthem,' everybody felt like it was real. From that time to now, you don't really know who's real because everything is so watered down," Swizz said.

Swizzy then went on to talk about the return of the Ruff Ryders. "The dog [DMX] is back. A lot of people are intimidated for him to make his appearance because you gotta understand that DMX is doing his thing. A lot of other artists are under pressure, a lot of labels are under pressure because it was something that they didn't even know how to contain. They didn't even know how to control DMX, the Ruff Ryders movement. Being with a movement for so many years, it's like being in the house with your parents. As a kid it's cool and your respect it but you wanna go out and explore your options

Young Jeezy Talks Tour With Lil Wayne

Young Jeezy will soon be touring the country with Lil Wayne for their 'America's Most Wanted' tour and the southern rapper sat down with Sway to talk about what makes this tour different from their past shows1. [watch here] "Me and Wayne went on my Street Dreams Tour," Jeezy said in an interview. [watch here] "That's two and half, three years ago. This is our third time being out. But this is amphitheaters -- it's outside, so you have a whole different feel." [watch here]

Jeezy then spoke on motivation and his love of performinjg. "I still do it for where I came from, I do it for the 'hood every time...I'm just ready to see what the crowd is gonna be like. How they gonna feel...For the most part, you gotta really be creative at this point...I brought the band out. I got a eight-, nine-piece band...Despite all the ghetto classics I got, I got music. I wanted to present it as music. Especially since I'm working on a new album, and that's kinda where I'm going with. I wanted to get them started early." [watch here]

Lil Wayne talks more on Young Money Crew

Kicking off the "Young Money Presents: The America’s Most Wanted Music Festival" Weezy wants to make sure all his young talent is getting the shine they deserve. That is no problem for newly signed artist [see Inside Drakes $2 Million Dollar Record Deal]Drake, who is already making a name for himself in the game, or newest member Omarion [see Wayne Signs Omarion]. But for other, lesser known artist who are signed to Young Money, this is their time to make themselves known.

Like member Gudda Gudda, the artist who has been with Wayne the longest, Wayne said "Gudda, he's got this aggression about him, What people don't know, Gudda started rapping several years ago, He started rapping because I said, 'I like your look. You should rap.' I wrote his first rap for him, and I never written another rap for him ever since that day I told him he should be a rapper."

Representing for the younger crew are Lil Twist, who rolls on a segway instead of in a whip, and Lil Chuckee, of whom Weezy has high hopes for, saying in regards to Chuckee’s style "His energy, he's a pure entertainer,I know that kid is gonna make it. It's like in sports when you got that Kobe Bryant. You don't know what to do with him, whether to play him the guard, center, small forward — you just know we're gonna win with him."

Game Replies To Jay-Z Calling Him A Groupie

The Game has no responded to Jay-Z calling him a "groupie" after Game has been dissing him for weeks. [listen here] "This dude is real slick, real witty and I never hated on his legacy or his old music but this new, everything he putting out to date is just trash. We don't want no parts to it and I feel like a lot of people have been wanting to voice their opinions but nobody has because as soon as I came out with the whole Jay-Z thing, everybody jumped on." [listen here]

Previously Jay-Z spoke on Game dissing him saying "We're all flawed human beings. All a person can do is apologize. Everyone should be allowed to make mistakes, it happens." Jigga went on to say "I like the game, the game is changing all the time, I've been dominating the game. Now tell me exactly what I said, tell me exactly what I said. I said, 'I'm not talking about...' is that a diss? I'm not talking about you. 'Oh you hurt my feelings...' Tell groupie to get over it. If that's a diss, wear that. Tell groupie to get over it." Bun B To Work With Drake On New Album

After Dallas hit producers made hits like "Got Money" (from Lil Wayne) and "Halle Berry" (from Hurricane Chris), Play-N-Skillz are currently working on new projects for Bun B, including a possible collaboration with Drake. "It’s going to be the official single off of Bun B’s new album," Play, one half of the brotherly production duo, said of the song.

"Drake and Jamie Foxx were supposed to be on the song. We didn’t actually do a session, it was just talked about and [Bun’s people] were gonna go through with it. Drake’s schedule just got crazy—his buzz just exploded—so I don’t know where we are with all that." Drake and Bun B have already worked together on the "Uptown" track from his highly-popular "So Far Gone" mixtape.

50 Cent "Forever King Mixtape"

50 Cent is like everyone else, he checks out the internet all the time although he refuses to watch Game's apology yesterday (June 2nd). 50 talked about his new "Forever King" mixtape saying "In the past, you’ve had artists, when they feel they’re on top their game, say they are, or would be considered, the King in New York City. So I feel on top of my game. It’s actually one of the laws of power: Act as if you’re a king to be treated like a king.”

The G-Unit general explained the design for the cover. "When Michael Jackson passed, there was a piece of artwork that had 'King of Pop, King of Rap' with me and his pictures. That's what gave me the concept of the artwork. There's a real human skull that's got diamonds embedded in it," he said. "I saw the photo in Dubai. It's an artifact, it's priceless. That's a real skull they see. We used the effect to make it feel like it's a skull inside
my face. And the Yankee hat would be my crown."

2009 New Faces of Hip-Hop,R&B and Fashion

2009 New Faces

WHO IS JEREMIH?
Def Jam’s latest sensation, Jeremih, was born with rhythm pulsing through his veins. Growing up on Chicago’s infamous Southside, the 21 year-old singer/songwriter behind the nationwide breakout hit “Birthday Sex” started making big noise when he was just a little boy.

Jeremih wears:

Diamond Burn Out Polo by Sean John, Silicon Jeans by Sean John and Blazer High by Nike

WHO IS NICKI MINAJ?

Any encounter with Nicki Minaj will arouse a heightened sense that there’s more to her than meets the eye and inspire the desire to experience this modern day “Wonder Woman”.

The 23 year old native of Jamaica, New York (Queens, Southside) is a writer, singer, actress and hip-hop artist. Her “Wonder Woman” characteristics are embodied in the three facets of Nicki Minaj: Nicki the Ninja, Nicki the Harajuku Barbie and Nicki the Boss.

Nicki wears: Authentic Sweater Dress by COOGI

WHO IS NIPSEY HUSSLE?
You already know what it is. From the way he greets you, to the words that he speaks. The uniform he wears is bold, aggressive and absolutely intimidating. He’s authentic – the offspring of the West Coast’s most celebrated talent – yet and still a novelty all his own. In an industry that’s fallen victim to bubble gum lyrics and erroneous dance fads to match, he’s the spokesperson the block wants for. He’s the sociopolitical outrage of Ice Cube and N.W.A. He’s Snoop Dogg before you knew his name and Ice T after an unexpected knock at 6 o’clock in the morning. He’s the very definition of Slauson & Crenshaw – a self-inspired movement and a name you can trust. He is Nipsey Hussle.

Nipsey Hussle wears: Nylon Jacket by Members Only, The Returner Jean by AKOO and Berlin Sneakers by Reebok.
